Plaster Casting Bandages: All Mother Belly's Pregnancy Belly Casting Kits provide medical grade plaster casting bandages. Medical grade gauze casting bandages are chosen by doctors and hospitals across the country to cast broken limbs. If a pregnant woman were to break an arm or leg during pregnancy, plaster casting bandages might be worn literally for weeks or months at a time. During a pregnancy belly cast, the fast set bandages we use are on mom's skin for about 30-45 minutes while the belly mold is created. They are non-toxic and meet ASTM-D4236 safety standards. If you have general concerns about belly casting or any reservations about its safety in relation to your specific pregnancy, please consult your OB as your final authority before doing a belly cast.
Vaseline: The release agent used in the Ultimate and Complete Belly Mask Cast Kits is Vaseline. We believe this to be the most universally safe and effective product to use for pregnancy belly casting. It is smeared liberally over mom's pregnant tummy to lubricate it and act as a buffer between her skin and the casting bandages. This enables the belly cast to be easily removed when set. Many lifecasting artists also use Vaseline as a release agent when doing professional body casting work with plaster gauze bandages. Vaseline is used and recommended by doctors and hospitals worldwide and has been used safely for years, not only as a skin softener but also as a skin protector, even on newborns. Please note: The Basic Belly Cast Kit does NOT include a release agent, like Vaseline. With the Basic Belly Casting Kit you must supply your own release agent for your skin so that the casting bandages will slide off easily. DO NOT attempt to do a belly cast on ungreased skin!
Gloves: To cover your helper's hands during the casting, we include one pair of nitrile gloves (for Basic and Complete Belly Mask Kits). In some cases, wearing vinyl or latex gloves may cause allergic reactions on the skin. Mother Belly Casting Kits provide nitrile gloves which, though more expensive, are safer to wear because they contain no rubber. The Ultimate Belly Cast Kit provides five pairs: for the helper and mom while making the cast, one for the sanding of the belly mask, one to wear while adding the strengthening plaster to the belly mold, and the final pair for finish painting the bellycast.
Sanding Screen: Once your beautiful pregnant belly cast has set, you can sand it using our sanding screen. This is an actual carbide screen so it's tougher and won't wear out or tear easily during rough sanding on your raw belly cast. One sanding screen is included with all kit styles.
Drop Cloth: We also provide you with a 9x12 foot plastic drop cloth to protect the furniture and floor in your belly casting area. The drop cloth is disposable, so when you've finished your belly cast, just throw it out and your bellycasting workspace is clean! The Basic Belly Cast Kit does not include a drop cloth.
Gift Box: Mother Belly's Complete or Ultimate Belly Cast Kits comes packaged with step by step instructions in a beautiful color gift box. The Basic Belly Cast Kit is shipped with instructions in regular corrugated shipping box packaging.
Optional Gift Wrap: Colorful Gift Wrap, coordinating ribbons, and a personalized gift card and message may be included for the Ultimate or Complete Belly Mask kits as an option. Mother Belly Pregnancy Belly Cast Kits make wonderful maternity or pregnancy gifts for expectant moms as well as unique baby shower gifts and memorable baby keepsakes! Gift wrap is unavailable for the Basic Pregnancy Belly Casting Kit.
The following materials are included only in the Ultimate Belly Mask Cast Kit.
Strengthening Plaster: High grade gypsum plaster casting stone mixes with water and applies like paint to your belly cast, but serves three distinct functions. First, it doubles the overall strength of your cast and reinforces weak areas, both inside and outside your belly mask. Second, it hides the plaster bandage lines giving a smoother all over finish to the mold. Third, it acts as a paint primer to prepare your pregnant belly cast for finish painting. Use one of the extra pairs of gloves provided with this kit to protect hands while working with the plaster.
Medium & Fine Grade Sandpapers: These two grades of sandpaper are provided for intermediate and finish sanding of your belly cast. Use one of the pairs of gloves provided in this kit
Finish Paints: Paints are American made and meet ASTM D4236 standards. With the Ultimate Belly Mask Cast Kit, you may choose any two 2oz. paints from 18 acrylic colors to decorate your belly mask.
One Inch Paint Brushes: Two disposable one inch paint brushes are provided for applying strengthening plaster and finishing paint.
Small Paint Brushes: Two mini craft paint brushes are provided for lettering or outlining your belly mold design.
Metallic Black Lettering & Antiquing Paint: ½ oz. black metallic paint for antiquing our bronze, gold, or champagne taupe metallic colors, or for use with lettering or outlining your belly casting design.
Antiquing Rags: 2 antiquing rags help obtain an "aged" look on your belly cast with our metallic paints
Antiquing Instructions: Complete instructions on how to use our black metallic paint to obtain an aged look for your belly cast over the bronze, gold, or champagne-taupe metallic colors.
Hanging Ribbon: 2 yards of 1.5 inch white wired ribbon for hanging your completed belly casting art.
Baby Safe Ink Pad: Your choice of a black, blue, or pink newborn safe ink pad to take your precious baby's first handprints and footprints at home (and to add to your belly cast after birth)! These nontoxic, acid free ink pads are smudge proof, washable, and reusable. Best of all, they are perfectly safe for creating your own baby keepsake hand and foot print ink imprints and can be used to decorate almost anything: belly casts, birth announcements, baby books, thank you cards, & more!
